Tuesday Shoesday: Olympics Edition

Going to London for the Olympics and have no shoes to wear? Well has Repetto and Opening Ceremony got a no brainer for you. Support our host country{it's only polite}as well as your home team in these beauties.

Now that we've gotten the shoes out of the way, let's talk Olympics. I'm not going to lie the Midgett house has got the fever {literally and figuratively..Matt is sick now}!! Have y'all been watching? It's extremely rare for me to talk about sports but guess what, I'm going to today. Mark this day down in history.

OK A. How weird was the Opening Cermony?? B. How sad was it when Jordyn Weiber was knocked out of the women's gymnastics all around by Aly Raisman!??! And then NBC was interviewing Aly while Jordyn was standing in the background literally 2 feet away.. completely devastated! We had to stop watching the interview.
so sad!
Also, how hilarious were Aly's parents??

C. What do we think about Ryan Lochte and his grill?

D. I have to say, synchronized swimming is so fascinating to me and I mean, Tom Daley is not bad on the eyes!
Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield mid dive
E. Finally, how fun was it that Great Britain took home the bronze in men's gymnastics last night. Oh and William and Harry were there.

So cute...and I love the sassy one!

I Heart Her Style

I am a super fan of Amanda Brooks and have been drooooling over pictures of her {former} home featured on Garance Dore . Her book,  I Love Your Style , blog and personal style have been incredibly inspirational to me.  I have followed her from her days at Tuleh {if any of you remember that line} up to her days as Fashion Director of  Barneys. She surprised the fashion world recently when she abruptly resigned from her "dream job" at Barneys after just one year to move to England with her family {her husband is artist, Christopher Brooks}. While her move was pretty unexpected, I am just so thankful we got a peak inside her GORGEOUS NYC home before she left!

Who doesn't need a picture of Lil' Kim in their home? Love that chair!!
This of course is my favorite pic...Amanda with her pup
I want EVERYTHING here

Such a great mix of modern, vintage and a little bohemian!! I'm ready to move in!!

Gallery Wall-A-Phobic

I have many phobias....bugs, heights, monsters...but one of my biggest fears is creating a gallery wall in my house. Last night I tried to start a small art wall on the new B& W walls and I pretty much had a nervous breakdown. My palms got all sweaty and I was dizzy...Whyyyy is it so hard for me? For a second, I thought that maybe it was the stripes that were throwing me off, but as I was pacing back and forth through my house, I noticed my office "gallery wall" I started a year ago and never finished. I literally have had two things hanging randomly above my computer for a year. It's maddening!! Now I know there is an easy solution to this...don't do a gallery wall...but I want one. I am going to make this happen so I looked for some inspiration...maybe this will inspire you too!!

ahhh so calming and orderly heart is beating a little faster, but I love the way these look

I am in full on panic mode even thinking about attempting this. And wait one damn there any order to how these were hung? Nothing is hung symmetrically!
Tips I've gathered:

  • Take a Xanax {This is more for me than you}
  • If your art varies in size, start with the largest pieces and work your way out
  • Try to keep frames in the same color.. obviously from these pictures, there are exceptions to this
  • Genius Tip #1: Lay out your frames on the floor first to get the desired look
  • Genius Tip #2: Trace and cut out shapes of your frames, poke holes where the nails are to go and tape it up to the wall see example here

Now for any experts out there please answer this question. In some of these galleries, the pictures are lined up directly in line with the one next to it, but then others are hung randomly. Is there some science to this that I don't know? Anyone is free to chime in here!

Couture Fall 2012: My Favorite Trend

I know I've talked about street style and the flowers at couture week, but now it's time to get down to business. I want to talk to you about THE trend of all trends: The face mask. Designers showed endless variations of couture face coverings, but here are some of my favorites from Giambattista Valli, Armani Prive and Maison Martin Margiela.

Here is one highly wearable one from Giambattista. This reminds me of something...What is it???
Oh yeah the creepiest movie EVER. Horror films and couture go so well together

This show stopping bedazzled veil is from Armani Prive

This beauty is by the one, the only, Maison Martin Margiela
I totally get it....
Who needs to see?

Now I'm sure some of you fashion rookies are thinking, "I would never wear that" or "Those are completely idiotic and ridiculous". Well, not me. See I am not a fashion rookie..I am a fashion risk taker and I am all about the face mask. In fact, I already have mine. Take that Olivia Palermo. Maybe you other suckers can get yours when they hit Shopbop or J. Crew in eight months.

Happy Weekend...and remember what your friend Elizabeth Midgett told you...face masks are the future!

Wedding Wednesday

Designer Raf Simons had two very important shows this year: His final collection for Jil Sander and his first collection for the house of Dior {couture no less}. While these were landmark collections for Raf and moving shows for the fashion world, what made them unforgettable for me were the flowers! Raf called upon friend and florist, Mark Calle to help create floral arrangements and if I had millions of dollars and a time machine, I would have called upon him for my wedding!!

Insane right!??!

Fun Facts:

  • Florist Mark Colle has been a florist since the age of 15 and owns a shop in Antwerp called Baltimore
  • Mark worked alone on the "flower cases" for the Jil Sander show
  • Music from Mazzy Star, Smashing Pumpkins & Sonic Youth were played during Raf's final show for Jil moody!
  • Over one million flowers were used for Raf's debut Dior Couture show
  • Five rooms were covered from floor to ceiling with flowers inside a Parisian mansion
  • The blooms were meant to pay homage to Dior who was passionate about flowers
  • Watch the construction of the flower walls here

Black and White Room Reveal

So if you recall, I was going to have my den painted in  black & white stripes! I was so scared but I figured if we hated it, we could always just paint over it. So ready for the big reveal????

love with these b&w chairs!

Sooooooo... what do you think??? Definitely a different couch and maybe a different rug? I'm also wanting to mix some floral into the room {Somehow my husband was ok with turning our room into a black and white looney bin but not OK with adding floral}. And of course accessorize!!!

Tell me everything!

Pamela Love Ties the Knot

Jewelry designer, Pamela Love got hitched to illustrator, Tom Nelson in a beautiful, nature inspired wedding this past May. The very free spirited Love envisioned a hippie summer camp vibe and Ruschmeye's " A 1950's summer camp turned resort in Montauk" was the perfect location for that sort of feel. There was a teepee for people to grab cocktails and listen to music and she walked down the aisle to Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". Fortunately for me.. aka the wedding stalker.. and you, Vogue took lots of pictures of the intimate Montauk event! I guess it's not very intimate if Vogue is covering it but whatevs..

Welcome sign at the Ruschmeyer Resort in Montauk
Just helping out with the big day! Pamela was definitely not a bridezilla!
Clockwise from top: original bracelets made by Love, crown of wildflowers, her YSL wedding shoes
and dress made by friend, Mara Hoffman
They Do!!
Man and wife! If you look right over Pamela's right shoulder you can see the Teepee!
LOVE the cutout detailing and the wildflower bouquet!

cutting the cake at the reception {one layer was Vegan for the groom} How Earthy!

P.S. Don't you feel like this should have been Jessa's {from Girls} wedding??

In other news, one of my best friends got engaged over the weekend and I am suuuuuuper excited!!! Can't wait for the wedding planning to begin!! Congratulations Nicole and John!!

Tuesday Shoesday

I've seen these shoes countless times, but after seeing a post on Amanda Brooks' blog, I Love Your Style , it dawned on me how much I love these Chanel espadrilles. I love the California casual frayed edges and the washed out colors...and the Chanel label can never hurt ;)

like the shoes but hate the price...try these....
